This week for SCTV, I covered soccer and a former NBA player who was a guest speaker for Wednesday morning chapel. So, I did sports and someone who did sports. The soccer update can be read here and the story on Wayne Simien here.
As it usually goes with sports, I had no idea what I was doing. I don't know what to write about sports other than who played who, where, and who won and by how many points. That is it. No offense to sports, but they just don't interest me. I just don't see what the big woop is. You watch someone else play a game. I don't like watching someone doing something I want to do. That's why I never watch LP videos on YouTube. It's like watching your friend play a videogame. It's no fun unless you're playing yourself.
Anyway, I wasn't able to talk to any coaches or players, so I emailed all the coaches asking for responses about the season as well as their teammates. I got one reply. And he was quick too! I felt bad because I emailed him in the wee hours of Friday morning, to which he replied later when he started working for the day. I was on a field trip all day long (which was a lot of fun by the way), so I couldn't get to it right away. I pulled it up on my phone on our way back to Sterling that night. After I noticed how soon he replied, I immediately emailed him back. I just found out late last night that my email didn't send. Oof. So, I emailed him from my laptop in the wee hours of this morning, to which he replied within in the hour.
I feel so bad when it comes to email. I aspire to be as responsive as he is. I am so thankful for his help.
As for chapel, it was really good. Wayne did a really good job. I especially like that his life goal is to share his personal experience with Jesus with others so they may have personal experiences with Him as well. It's always cool to hear from people like that. I was able to talk with him afterwards. Man, he looks shorter on stage than in person. I am not used to people being taller than me, and that guy's got a good five inches on me. Anyway, I took a couple crowd photos with my phone for the article, interviewed him after his message, and called it good enough.
While I do not enjoy sports myself, I respect those who do. They put a lot of time and hard work into what they do. They are dedicated to what they do and the people they do it with. I wish I could be like that, except for something less physically draining, like checkers or something.
