Sports is not my thing. Just being blunt. However, I was forced to cover some this week.
But first: God.
The first event I covered was the first lecture of the Theology+ series by the theology department at Sterling College. You can read my story here.
I really enjoyed the lecture and am glad it is a series. I really enjoy talking with Dr. Gabrielson and Prof. Kosek. They're both pretty great guys. Always smiling. :-) (Yes, I put noses on my emoticons. I'm not completely psycho.)
They talked about how theology and mathematics connect through God as well as the difference between predetermination and predestination. I love complex topics like that. They keep my mind engaged, though now may not be the best time for it since I have a headache. Don't worry. It's not from last week's headbangs. It's from lack of sleep. Completely unrelated (somewhat, not really). I need to see a doctor.
Anyway, on top of that really cool story, I also had to do a sports story. Oof...
Sports is not my forte. I've never really been interested in them nor do I really care about them right now. I care about the people I know who play them to watch (some of) their games, but not enough to actually play the sport or follow it.
I'm actually kind of surprised I don't like sports. I mean, they're basically games. I like games to a short extent. I'm a guy. I like videogames. Not enough to be considered a gamer, but enough to set up an Xbox next to my TV. It is actually better than getting a Roku or Amazon FireStick or anything like that functionality-wise, but that's another conversation.
Back to the topic at hand.
I've never really been interested in sports that much. I loved playing soccer as a kid. I think I was meant to, not because it's my destiny or anything, but because my mom lovingly forced me to play as far back as I can remember. I ended up not completely hating it. I, in fact, enjoyed playing. I played all through elementary school. I was actually sad that my town didn't organize soccer after the sixth grade. I liked it that much.
So, this week, I covered the home soccer game at Sterling College. I admit, I was late to the game because the Theology+ lecture ran later than scheduled. I also had to stay afterwards to get some quotes.
But it's OK. 'Cause soccer games are loooong.
I was there for most of the game and took photos. I am not a good sports photographer. I have done it before, didn't like it, and accepted the fact that I at least tried it. I now have a more edumacated opinion.
The part I do like is meeting the soccer players. They're pretty cool. I like taking pictures; they like getting their pictures taken. What more do you need?
Seriously though, the experience isn't bad. Writing it is. I know next to nothing about sports nor do I really care. I am not qualified to write about them. And yet, here we are.
But it's OK.
Man, my head really hurts right now. I need to go to bed. Fat chance that's gonna happen. I really need to see that doctor.
